A FEW THINGS TO PONDER - SMILE

Here are a few things to think about while you are sitting there ..if you know the answers to these questions...pass them to me...

Can you cry under water ?

How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated... instead of just murdered ?

Why do you have to "put your two cents in".. but it's only a "penny for your thoughts ?" Where's that extra penny going to ?

Once you're in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity ?

Why does a round pizza come in a square box?

What SORT OF disease did THE cured ham actually have ?

How is it that we put A man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Why is it that people say they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up like.... every two hours ?

If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing ?

Why are you IN a movie, but you're ON TV?

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground ?

Why do doctors leave the room while you change ? They're going to see you BUTT naked anyway.

Why is "bra" singular and "panties" plural ?

Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat?

If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a stupid, DIPPY song about him ?

Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane ?

If the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a radio out of a coconut, why can't he fix a SMALL hole in a boat?

Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? aREN'T THEY both dogs ??

If Wiley E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that ACME crap, why didn't he just buy dinner..?

If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from...?

If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons ?

Does the
Alphabet song
and
Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
have the same tune?

Why ON EARTH did you just try singing OR HUMMING the two songs above?

Why do they call it an asteroid when it's outside the hemisphere, but call it a hemorroid when it's in your butt?

Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride he sticks his head out the window?

Friends,

Today is the 65th anniversary of the remarkable raid led by then-Lt Col "Jimmy" Doolittle (later General James H. Doolittle). Of the 80 men who launched their B-25s from an aircraft carrier to bomb Japan just four months after Pearl Harbor, only 14 are left today. Half of them were able to travel here to San Antonio for the annual gathering of the Doolittle Raiders. A few newspapers have written stories about the raid this week, and some of those articles are linked here.

http://aimpoints.hq.af.mil/display.cfm?id=18101

Yesterday, the 80 goblets that represent the 80 men who launched on that mission arrived at Randolph Air Force Base from their permanent place of honor at the National Museum of the Air Force near Dayton, Ohio. (Years ago, the goblets were on display at the Air Force Academy and I used to regularly walk by and scan the names on them. However, the Doolittle Raiders "belong" to the Nation as a whole so it is appropriate that the goblets are now in Dayton where they can be seen by the tens of thousands of visitors who stop there to learn about our Air Force and its heritage and heroes.) Four of the Raiders were on hand for the arrival of the goblets and to hear the 12th Flying Training Wing Commander thank them for the courage they showed six and a half decades ago in a legendary attack that bolstered the morale of our Nation while embarrassing the empire that committed the Pearl Harbor aggression.

Yesterday, I shook the hands of four veterans - Richard E. Cole (Doolittle's co-pilot on Crew 1, the first plane into the air on the raid), David J. Thatcher (Crew 7, gunner), Thomas C. Griffin (Crew 9, Navigator, later POW in Germany for two years), and Robert L. Hite (Crew 16, co-pilot, Japanese POW for three and a half years ). I thanked each of them for their service. I know that some of you also do that for today's service members and veterans. Some of you served yourself or were a family member of someone who was in the military. God bless you for that. On this day of remembrance of the Doolittle Raid, may God continue to bless this great Nation and those who serve us in the Armed Forces and other instruments of national power and community service.

Someone asked me at dinner if I was still making quilts....lots of baby quilts lately, but did put a small quilt in the Capitol Quilt Show in Denver....I have attached pictures of the show...my quilt is the red and black one. Thought you would enjoy seeing this very great show we do every other year. We have over 200 quilts hanging this year. All quilts made in Colorado.Shots are taken from all three floors of the Capitol building, with a shot of the dome. The building was totally renovated and dome redone the past 2-3 years...it is a beautiful building with inside all done in pink/grey/black Colorado granite and marble. Enjoy! Jackie Darling Anderson

LICENSE PLATE PICTURE

A friend of mine - actually, my daughter's ex-husband who used to help me with the original Rohawk website, sent me this picture. He said he thought he would be talking to a Rohawk when he went up to ask him about the plate. However, it stands for Rod Hawk ..... or Road Hawk, a club in Canada. Click on the picture to make it larger.

Thank you Note from Jackie and Jeff

Heh girlfriend!
What a great night we all had on Saturday! Jeff and I were so glad that they changed our flight (even if the coming home flight was totally messed up!!) and we could surprise you all! What fun! It was just terrific to see everyone again and to catch up on everyone's life.I have attached pictures from my camera...not too many since my side was too busy smooching and laughing and talking too much...as we always do!!

And, I think we all agree, that we would all like to have the magic time machine information from Sandy that transported her from 1964 to Saturday night, looking even better than before and younger!!!

Sitting and watching all these folks brought back a flood of memories for me and for Jeff too. We had to travel to Randolph AFB the next day so we could soak it all up again! Got to visit my old house (now occupied by a very nice Major and his family) and to see the pool (no more high board) and great new raised deck area (I still miss great fries at the snack bar....), and of course, to see the Taj Mahal.

Thank you again for putting this all together and getting us all out for a fun night. Much love to you all and I promise to keep in touch better than before!!

2007 DINNER AT THE BARN DOOR!

Dear Ro-Hawks!

Jeff Anderson ('63) and Jackie (Darling '64) Anderson contacted me and asked me to have another get together at The Barn Door because they were going to be visiting San Antonio from Colorado in April. We planned and planned and made reservations, got confirmations, etc. Then the day before the planned dinner I got a call from Jackie that a big snow storm was coming their way and their flight was cancelled!!!! We still met for dinner on April 14th at The Barn Door without them and we were all bummed. However, right after we ordered our dinner we look up and there are Jeff and Jackie!!! The storm wasn't as bad, and they caught a flight and wanted to surprise us. THAT THEY DID!!! We had a wonderful time eating and catching up on old times. However, the night was not all wonderful as 3 or 4 automobiles were broken into in the parking lot, including Bill Borellis's car. No one was hurt but some windows were smashed and valuables taken, including Bill's golf clubs!!! Here are the pictures from that night. Remember, no one was hurt during the taking of these pictures! (Click on the link below and scroll down to the pictures - you can click on the individual pictures or click on "view album as a slideshow")

P.S. Jeff and Jackie - thank you for the Rocky Mountain Candy.... I was able to get the cellophane off with my teeth (why are they packed so good?) while driving home and talking on my cell phone ..... I ate about 4 of them. The next day my mom ate the rest. Needless to say, yum yum

DATE TO REMEMBER FOR NEXT GET TOGETHER. WRITE THIS ON YOUR CALENDAR. JUNE 2ND.... More details to follow soon.

Love you guys, Gloria

RAMBLINGS OF A RETIRED MIND

Ramblings of a Retired Mind
- some thoughts.

I was thinking about how a status symbol of today is those cell phones that everyone has clipped onto their belt or purse. I can't afford one. So, I'm wearing my garage door opener.

You know, I spent a fortune on deodorant before I realized that people didn't like me anyway.

I was thinking that women should put pictures of missing husbands on beer cans!

I was thinking about old age and decided that old age is 'when you still have something on the ball, but you are just too tired to bounce it.'I thought about making a fitness movie, for folks my age, and call it "Pumping Rust."

I have gotten that dreaded furniture disease. That's when your chest is falling into your drawers!

I know, when people see a cat's litter box, they always say, "Oh, have you got a cat?" Just once I want to say, "No, it's for company!"

Employment application blanks always ask 'who is to be notified in case of an emergency.' I think you should write, "A Good Doctor!"

Why do they put pictures of criminals up in the Post Office? What are we supposed to do -- write to these men? Why don't they just put their pictures on the postage stamps so the mailmen could look for them while they deliver the mail? Or better yet, arrest them while they are taking their pictures!

I was thinking about how people seem to read the Bible a whole lot more as they get older. Then, it dawned on me, they were cramming for their finals.

As for me, I'm just hoping God grades on the curve.

AGING IS FUNNY! RIGHT?

As we think and try to remember....

"Old age is when you know all the answers but nobody asks you the questions."

Laurence J. Peter

"I used to dread getting older because I thought I would not be able to do all the things I wanted to do, but now that I am older I find that I don’t want to do them."

Lady Astor

"My health is good; it’s my age that’s bad."

Roy Acuff

"I stay away from natural foods. At my age I need all the preservatives I can get."

George Burns

RHS CURRENT UIL ACADEMIC COMPETITON

Gloria,

I wanted to make sure you're aware of the successes of our alma mater in the UIL academic competition last week. This year was a bumper crop of medalists.

Check out this site:

http://utdirect.utexas.edu/uil/vlcp_results.WBX?s_year=2007&s_meet_abbr=SPM&s_gender=&s_level_id=D&s_level_nbr=29&s_conference=2A&s_area_zone=&s_submit_sw=X

Select Current Issues and hit GO. You'll see the team did very well - they fully expect to go back to state and possibly win. This is a fickle event but you never know...

Select Science and hit GO. RoHawk Adam Cribb picked up the individual overall gold, individual chemistry gold, individual physics gold (these results are at the bottom). They think the team can make it to state - the girl who won the biology gold is also from Randolph.

Select Social Studies and hit GO. This is the team's weakest event - they're just hoping for a good showing at regional.

Also, select Accounting and hit GO. As you can see, a completely different Randolph team made it to regional.

What's nice about this is the quantity of kids of Randolph that are bringing home medals and going on the regional! One of the parents remarked that "success breeds success". Two years ago, only a couple Randolph kids went to region, and Adam Cribb was the first to go to state in the last several years - but last year they took the entire current events team to state.

BTW, Adam also has earned eight varsity athletic letters at RHS. Four in cross-country and four in track.

I am so proud of these young people who are currently walking the halls we walked so long ago. Thought you might be proud of them also.

Jerry
