INTERESTING ARTICLE - TEXAS MONTHLY
I just read an interesting article titled "ARMY BRAT" page 172 in the December 2005 issue of TEXAS MONTHLY magazine. The article was written by Michael Hall and it concerns "With a father in the military, the question was never where we were from but were we were going next." The author lives in Austin and grew up in the military and was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston twice. His father was an Army surgeon who served as the commanding officer of the brooke army Medical Center for a year. He also attended Cole High School. The article also asks the question "Can you really go home?" if you have no real roots. Gloria

OK, all you fellow brats. Good to hear from all of you and to hear of your lives.
Working for tax attorneys in the "big city," December is usually a lost month for me, and 2005 was no exception. I just read my December Texas Monthly this weekend. For those of you who can get your hands on a copy, you might be interested to see the article on page 172 by a writer named Michael Hall who recounts his life as an army brat. His dad was an Army physician from WWII through Viet Nam, and Mr. Hall spends a good amount of print on his "brathood." We brats seem to be very "en vogue" right now. For the most part, I think Mr. Hall agreed that his upbringing made him very resilient and prepared him for his current life. But he ends with the notion that he's comforted by the fact that he now resides in Austin, apparently has no intention of leaving, and, by golly, his kid is going to know "where he comes from."
Interesting reading.
Best wishes for the new year to all of you.
