THE SILVER JACKET AWARD - FIRST AWARDED TO BRUCE CANNON, Class of 1970 and Principal and Coach from 1977 to 2011

THE SILVER JACKET AWARD - AWARDED TO BRUCE CANNON

In recognition of Randolph High School's 60th Anniversary, it was decided by members of the homecoming planning committee that a speciaL award, titled The Silver Jacket Award, would be presented to a very deserving Ro-Hawk alumni during half-time of the homecoming football game! As the first-ever Silver Jacket Award came to fruition, it seemed only fitting to select an alumni who had not only an outstanding time as a student at Randolph High School, but also an outstanding career as a teacher, coach and administrator in Randolph Field ISD. Although our list of special alumni was 60 years long!

The following is the script from the PA system from the box

PA - Ladies and Gentleman, Children of All Ages - please turn your attention to the 50 Yard line. This evening on the 60th Homecoming of Randolph Field ISD, Ro-Hawk Alumni and Randolph Field Education Foundation are celebrating a longtime member of the RFISD Family. This recognition is being presented by Superintendent Dr. Brian Holt, Principal Mark Malone and Bobby Mickler, son of Coach Bob Mickler who this stadium is named after.

PA- We are recognizing Ro-Hawk Alum and former RFISD teacher, coach, and principal, Mr. Bruce Cannon

PA- Bruce Cannon is a lifelong Ro-Hawk who began his Randolph journey when he started Kindergarten here in 1957 and continued all the way through his high school graduation in 1970.

During his time at RHS, Bruce was a 4-year varsity letterman in football, basketball, and track, and he earned “All-State” honors as both running back and linebacker during his junior and senior years.

After graduation, Bruce went on to attend the University of Texas where he accepted a football scholarship and was a 3-year letterman linebacker for the legendary Texas Longhorns coach, Darrell K. Royal.

After graduating from UT in 1975, Bruce began his teaching career in Northeast ISD, but just two short years later, he returned to Randolph as a teacher and coach. He received his Master’s Degree in School Administration from Texas A&I in 1988 and subsequently became the Randolph Middle School Principal, serving in that role from 1989 to 1994. In 1994, Bruce became the Principal of Randolph Secondary Schools, a position he held for 17 years until his retirement in 2011.

In total, Bruce served as a teacher, coach, and administrator at Randolph for 33 years. When combined with his time as a Randolph student, his affiliation with RFISD totals an amazing 46 years.

Along with Susie -- his wife of nearly 47 years -- Bruce has remained actively involved with our Randolph community. Most recently, attending various Randolph events to support his two oldest grandchildren, both of whom now attend RFISD schools.

It is truly our honor to present the Randolph Field ISD distinguished Alumni Award to Mr. Bruce Cannon! Amanda Bauer Associate Principal and former teacher, originally hired by Bruce is presenting the Alumni Silver Jacket Award.
